Senior Theater Troupe at Senior Friendship Centers presents a Holiday Extravaganza

(Sarasota, FL – October 5, 2019) – On November 19, 20, 21 and 22 from 4-5:30 p.m., the Senior Theater Troupe at Senior Friendship Centers will present a “Holiday Extravaganza.” The shows will be open to the public and will have an entry fee of $10, with all proceeds going to Senior Friendship Centers.

Each live performance will begin with eight songs by Gershwin performed by Irene Silver-Stender’s Sarasota Senior Theater Group and followed by three short plays written by Arthur Keyser.

The three plays will be directed by local professional directors Bob Turoff, Jenny Aldrich and Dan Higgs. The directors have a long history in theater, locally with the Golden Apple, Asolo Repertory Theatre, The Players Centre for Performing Arts, and with the Sarasota Area Playwrights Society, and also nationally.

In a past life, Keyser was a lawyer for more than 50 years. At age 80 he started writing plays – and winning festivals. His plays are performed around the world, averaging 60-70 performances per year, and he won the 2017 Players New Play Festival – when he was 88 years old.

“These are some of the most talented people in Sarasota,” said Keyser, “and they are all volunteers.”

The theater troupe made its debut in March, performing three 15-minute plays at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota. The events were such a success that Keyser planned another series. He held open auditions in September for the November performances, with the criteria being that lines had to be memorized.

The Holiday Extravaganza will have an added bonus – a new stage, thanks to a grant from the Sarasota Senior Theater Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The stage will enable the actors to be seen and heard more easily for the 75-100 people who are expected to come to each performance.

For more information or to RSVP for one of the Holiday Extravaganza shows, call (941) 955-2122 or visit friendshipcenters.org. Tickets for the shows will also be available at the door.
