Insight Colab Theatre presents 4000 Miles

INSIGHT COLAB THEATREpresents4000 MilesbyAmy HerzogDirected by Samantha Saunders July 25 August 4, 2024 Insight Colab Theatre presents 4000 Miles July 25 through August 4, at Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St, Aurora, CO 80010. Performances are Thursday, July 25; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.   Tickets are $25 - $35 and available at https://insightcolab.square.site/. Student discount information on the site. For more information call 303-437-8917. After suffering a major loss while on a cross-country bike trip, a 21-year-old grandson seeks solace from his feisty 91-year-old grandfather in his West Village apartment. Over the course of a single month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately reach each other. 4000 Miles looks at how two outsiders find their way in today's world. Director Samantha Saunders states, The all-Asian casting stays in line with our mission of giving opportunities to an under represented demographic and it aligns with the roots of the theatre company. We wanted to explore nontraditional casting for the play and the grandfather/grandson relationship will still discover the generational struggles the play dives into. She went on to say, This play is still different in the sense that it explores the struggle of the old world and the new world coming together and how that can be overcome. I dont believe it is the gender of the family member that is important in this casting but rather the colliding of different life experiences and coming together as a family despite those differences. Amy Herzogs 4000 Miles won the 2012 Obie Award for Best New American Play and was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Her play Mary Jane, won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play. She was a finalist for the 20122013 and 20162017 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Herzog was also nominated for a 2023 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play for her adaptation of Ibsen's A Doll's House. Newly rebranded, Insight Colab Theatre was previously known as Theatre Esprit Asia (TEA). TEA, founded in 2012, was Southwest Denvers first and only pan Asian American theatre company. Insight Colab Theatre features plays with non-traditional, diverse casting while creating acting workshops to train the new generation of diverse actors along with a writers series to explore identity, race and privilege. https://www.insightcolab.org Insight Colab Theatre4000 MilesA compassionate story of family, love and healing.July 25 Aug 4Thurs., July 25 @ 7:30 p.m.Fri/Sat at 7:30 p.m. and Sat/Sun at 2:00 p.m.$25 - $35https://www.insightcolab.orgFor more information call 303-437-8917.Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St, Aurora, CO 80010

Om-bud-sman

Not Just an Advocate Om-buds-man. Just what in the world is an Ombudsman?! I had the privilege of sitting down with two such individuals the other day who work for the Larimer County Ombudsman program and received first-hand knowledge about this program. I walked away with one solid definition in mind for the term Ombudsman that is simply one who is a trained and experienced SENIOR ADVOCATE. An Ombudsman works as part of a team with the staff of nursing and assisted living homes to protect the civil and human rights of residents. Although an Ombudsman is also defined as a problem solver and mediator, I am left with the strong impression that an Ombudsman would prefer a proactive rather than reactive approach when it comes to protecting the rights of residents. Residents and family members are encouraged to call the local Ombudsman with any questions, big or small, when it comes to resident rights and care. All calls, of course, are kept confidential. A primary goal of an Ombudsman is to address concerns before they could potentially become problems. An Ombudsman is also an EDUCATOR. Starting a new chapter in ones life in a nursing or assisted living residence can be overwhelming. An Ombudsman can tell you many aspects of what you can expect in moving into either type of home, and can also provide information and assistance in choosing the right home to best fit your needs and wishes. Most importantly, you can be educated about what your rights are as a resident living in long-term care. Ombudsmen work within the Department of Human Services in each county. These individuals are dedicated to protecting the rights of residents, and in doing so, are there for anyone who may have questions, comments or concerns relating to a loved one living in or moving to a long-term care establishment. Senior ERs Reshaping Care for the Aging Population

When 92 year old, Marcelle, fell at home and required a trip to a local emergency room (ER), she didn't think about the additional stress she would experience of being in the hustle, bustle environment of a typical ER. Yet, for individuals with difficultly hearing, seeing or moving, an ERs harsh environment can increase anxiety and decrease the level of communication between patient and physician. As the aging population continues to increase in our country, hospitals are stepping up to address the specific needs of our senior population. One such advancement is the increase in Senior Emergency Rooms. A Senior ER is an emergency room specializing in the treatment of patients 65 and older. This patient population typically presents with a unique set of needs that many traditional ERs are not currently addressing. Many of these Senior ERs offer physical enhancements such as nonskid flooring; beds with thicker, pressure-reducing mattresses; softer room lighting; a quieter environment; hearing and visual aids; and walkers or other assistive devices. Additionally, the nurses dedicated to a Senior ER typically go through specialized education and physicians and nurses take workshops in sensory appreciation and ageism to learn how to better communicate with older adults and their caregivers. Most importantly, the implementation of a new philosophy of care for the geriatric patient is at the heart of these programs. By design, clinicians are instructed to perform a variety of screenings relevant to the senior patient and follow up with every patient after they have returned home. This extra contact is intended to help lower readmission rates and reduce the risk of harmful drug interactions, which provides higher quality and more cost-effective care. The combination of both a new practice philosophy and senior focused amenities provides a much needed service to our unique senior population. The Exempla Senior ER at Lutheran Medical Center is currently the only Senior ER in the state of Colorado.Editors Note: This article was submitted by Wendy Forbes for Exempla Lutheran Senior ER. Senior Placement Agencies in Denver

When you or a loved one needs to find new housing or care, the possibilities can be daunting. While you can conduct all of your own research and make all of your own phone calls, it can be exhausting and time-consuming.Thats where senior placement agencies provide a free service. Senior placement agencies work with seniors and their families to determine what level of care is required and what facilities are available. Not all the elderly has family members nearby to assist them with this work, which is why senior placement services are beneficial. How Do Senior Placement Agencies in Denver Work?A specialist will meet with you and your family to examine your situation before you are moved to live in a new environment. He or she will take into account the following information:Medical conditions and requirementsfinancial statuslocationNeeds related to religion or cultureThe specialists will have an informed sense of what type of living situation is suitable for your loved one based on all four pieces of information. Once everyone has agreed on what type of facility is ideal and where there is availability, the placement specialists will arrange for a tour so you may see the facility and ask questions. You will visit several communities in order to compare and decide which one is ideal for you.Once youve made your decision, the placement specialist will work with you to determine benefits should you have long-term care insurance. This will give you a better idea of whether you can afford a particular location. This procedure may take some time but be patient and understand that the placement specialist is working hard to locate the best and most economical living situation available. After youve made your decision, the senior placement agencys coordinator can provide you with referrals to plan your move. The agency recognizes that this is a significant emotional and physical undertaking. Thats why its critical to have someone on your side with whom you feel at ease and with whom you can place your trust.Even after youve moved in, the coordinator will almost certainly contact you during the transition to ensure that there are no issues. The placement specialist wants to ensure that you have made the appropriate selection and are at ease. How Senior Placement Agencies Support Seniors and their FamiliesSenior placement agencies make the move to senior living simple and comfortable.
