Insight Colab Theatre presents 4000 Miles

INSIGHT COLAB THEATREpresents4000 MilesbyAmy HerzogDirected by Samantha Saunders July 25 August 4, 2024 Insight Colab Theatre presents 4000 Miles July 25 through August 4, at Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St, Aurora, CO 80010. Performances are Thursday, July 25; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.   Tickets are $25 - $35 and available at https://insightcolab.square.site/. Student discount information on the site. For more information call 303-437-8917. After suffering a major loss while on a cross-country bike trip, a 21-year-old grandson seeks solace from his feisty 91-year-old grandfather in his West Village apartment. Over the course of a single month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately reach each other. 4000 Miles looks at how two outsiders find their way in today's world. Director Samantha Saunders states, The all-Asian casting stays in line with our mission of giving opportunities to an under represented demographic and it aligns with the roots of the theatre company. We wanted to explore nontraditional casting for the play and the grandfather/grandson relationship will still discover the generational struggles the play dives into. She went on to say, This play is still different in the sense that it explores the struggle of the old world and the new world coming together and how that can be overcome. I dont believe it is the gender of the family member that is important in this casting but rather the colliding of different life experiences and coming together as a family despite those differences. Amy Herzogs 4000 Miles won the 2012 Obie Award for Best New American Play and was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Her play Mary Jane, won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play. She was a finalist for the 20122013 and 20162017 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Herzog was also nominated for a 2023 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play for her adaptation of Ibsen's A Doll's House. Newly rebranded, Insight Colab Theatre was previously known as Theatre Esprit Asia (TEA). TEA, founded in 2012, was Southwest Denvers first and only pan Asian American theatre company. Insight Colab Theatre features plays with non-traditional, diverse casting while creating acting workshops to train the new generation of diverse actors along with a writers series to explore identity, race and privilege. https://www.insightcolab.org Insight Colab Theatre4000 MilesA compassionate story of family, love and healing.July 25 Aug 4Thurs., July 25 @ 7:30 p.m.Fri/Sat at 7:30 p.m. and Sat/Sun at 2:00 p.m.$25 - $35https://www.insightcolab.orgFor more information call 303-437-8917.Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St, Aurora, CO 80010

Is an Incentive Trust a Good Idea?

You can use many different types of trusts when doing your estate planning. One is an incentive trust. It is not nearly as common as other types of trusts, but does it bear considering? An incentive trust essentially works by connecting an inheritance to a specific goal. For instance, a person may only get their inheritance if they graduate from college or if they maintain a full-time job. You can help to guide the course of their life, and the money in the trust gives them financial incentive to do what you have deemed wise. The downsides of such a trustThis certainly can work, but there are some downsides to consider. One is just that it's hard to be specific enough to address everything that may happen. For example, say that you want your heir to hold down a job. Seems simple, right? But what if your heir wants to leave their job to volunteer the medical field in a third-world country? They want to save lives and give back which you would have supported but does the trust now mean they have to give up their inheritance to do so? Or, what if they get sick, become disabled, go back to school or have to help a sick or injured loved one?Another downside is that your heir may resent the fact that the trust forces them to live a certain way. Even if they do it, is a legacy of resentment one you want to leave?Making your estate planIf you're considering trusts and other tools for your estate plan, carefully go over your legal options to determine what will be best for your family.

4 Ways to Reduce Stress From Caregiver Emotions

Caring for seniors is an emotional jobOne caregiving challenge that doesn't get enough attention is dealing with the strong emotions that unavoidably come up.Caregiving is hectic and exhausting, so it's natural to push aside the feelings and focus on concrete tasks especially when those feelings are ones, we don't want to admit to.The problem is, if these emotions aren't dealt with, they can seriously damage your health.Dealing with these strong emotions rather than ignoring them significantly reduces stress, improves your ability to care for yourself, and helps you be realistic and get the help you need.We describe top caregiving emotions and share 4 ways to help you manage difficult feelings to reduce stress and improve your health.Common caregiver emotionsWhile caring for an older adult, many caregivers have strong and conflicting feelings.Top emotions include:Anger at your older adults frustrating behaviorAnger at their disease or the aging process itselfAnger that you've been forced to take on so much responsibilityGuilt over thoughts and feelings (like wishing they would pass away sooner to prevent more suffering, being angry, wanting to quit, etc.)Anxiety because you don't know what will happen nextFrustration that you can't stop what's happeningDespair that there aren't any treatments that can restore them to the way they used to beSadness for all that you've both already lostAnticipatory grief, which means that you're dealing with losing your older adult before they actually pass away4 ways to manage strong caregiver emotions1. Don't ignore your feelings Ignoring anger, sadness, and other caregiver emotions only makes things worse.Forcing away your feelings can cause high stress, sudden angry outbursts (and guilt afterwards), hopelessness, unhealthy life choices, sleep problems, or depression.Acknowledging and identifying your feelings may be uncomfortable at first. But the more you accept what you're feeling, the less likely you'll be plagued by those negative health side effects.2. Don't be strong and silentYou don't need to pretend that everything is fine. You're in the middle of a serious, sometimes scary, and literally life-changing situation. Not allowing yourself to cry, show anger, or say that you're frustrated and need help adds an incredible amount of stress to an already stressful situation.Instead, give yourself permission to share with supportive family and friends. Talk about what's really happening, how you're feeling about it, and what kind of help you need. You'll get rid of the extra stress from pretending, get more understanding from others, and be more open to support.
