Companion and Patient/Family Support Volunteers visit patients in skilled nursing homes, hospitals, personal residences – wherever the patient calls home. Companionship and comfort is provided through their presence, listening, reminiscing/life reviews, reading short stories or the newspaper, playing music (personally or via cell phone or other device), respite, running errands, playing cards or games, light housekeeping, watching movies, and more.
Visits can be made to patients in your community! Volunteers are provided an orientation that can be done as a self-study, either on-line or through print materials, allowing the volunteer to complete it at home and at their convenience. On-going trainings and support are provided through group gathers and events, personal contact with the Volunteer Coordinator, and electronic or print materials. Background check and two-step PPD (TB test) are required; costs are covered by Homeland Hospice.
Contact Laurie Murry, Volunteer Coordinator, at 717-409-8882 for more information.
