Medicare Advantage Plans and Non-Medical Home Care

Seniors have the option to “opt out” of traditional Medicare plans and “opt in” to a Medicare Advantage plan.

These plans are rapidly growing because they offer benefits not covered by traditional Medicare including: eyeglasses, dental care, and non-medical home care. 2019 is expected to be the year in which this new benefit will be introduced and is expected to gain momentum with more plans offering the enhanced benefit over the next 2 to 3 years.

Non-Medical Home Care is care provided by trained aides who assist with routine and maintenance care, allowing seniors to enjoy independence in their own home and receive the care they need. If you or a loved one are struggling with daily tasks and would like to remain in your home, Medicare Advantage Plans which cover non-medical home care may be the solution.

Non-Medical Home Care covers activities including assistance with:

  • Eating
  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Mobility (ambulation/exercise/transferring/walking)
  • Incontinence
  • Grooming (oral/hair/nail/skin/care)
  • Light Housekeeping/Laundry
  • Meal Preparation
  • Shopping/Errands
  • Medication Reminders
  • Companionship (games/reading/company)
