The Dallas Area Gerontological Society's (DAGS) Annual Fall Forum was held virtually for 2020, with a fitting theme "The Year Everything Changed"!
Opening Remarks from DAGS President, Kathleen Warshawsky, RN, BSN.
The Dallas Area Gerontological Society was founded with the expressed intent to educate the community at large about Gerontology, advocate for elderly persons, and promote improved services for elderly persons, and in the year 2020 we have continued to do just that. When the COVID pandemic arrived to the Dallas area, the DAGS Board began meeting via zoom to devise a plan to continue with our mission. Educational programs were arranged as zoom webinars instead of in-person events; DAGS board members advocated to protect older adults, contacting the Texas Health and Human Services asking for transparency of COVID data in long-term care communities; and members of DAGS assisted long term care communities in locating much needed PPE such as mask, gowns, face shields, and antibacterial wipes.
Although 2020 may be The Year Everything Changed, The Dallas Area Gerontological Society continues to educate, advocate and promote improved services for the older adult population in 2020 with the same passion as it had when it was founded in 1989. I am proud to be a member and the president of the Dallas Area Gerontological Society in 2020!
